Spring Hill, Florida (Apr 17, 2020) – Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School’s Director of Athletics, Riczer Desvaristes, is proud to announce the addition of 2020 Hillsborough County Coach of the Year, Derrick Sharp, as the new Bishop McLaughlin Boys’ Basketball coach. “We are excited to have Derrick join the Bishop family. He built an amazing program in Hillsborough County, and we know he will do the same at Bishop,” said Desvaristes.
After playing for the University of South Florida, Sharp moved to Israel playing on a variety of Israeli teams for 18 years. He spent 15 years with the Maccabi Tel Aviv team, spending part of the time as the team's captain. After his retirement in 2011, he served as assistant coach from 2011-2013. With Maccabi, he won a record 29 club titles.

Sharp is married to Canadian basketball player Justine Ellison. They have four children together, three sons and a daughter. Sharp lived with his family in Herzliya, Israel, until August 2013. Later the Sharps moved to Orlando, FL. Most recently the family moved to Tampa where Sharp worked as the Head Coach of the Blake High School Boys’ basketball team.
Also joining Coach Sharp upon arrival is his son, Emanuel Sharp, 2020 Florida 5A Player of the Year. He averaged 31.9 PPG, leaving him as the 4th leading scorer in the state and top 20 in the country. For his class, the 2022 guard is currently ranked 50th in the country per Rivals. Emanuel currently holds 4 offers from Florida, SMU, Texas Tech, and USF.
